Red Sky History
"Red Sky at night, sailors' delight;
Red Sky in the morning, sailors take warning"
Sailors have long used the sky’s colour to forecast the weather. The humidity of the atmosphere, coupled with the air temperature at the beginning and end of the day, signal possible changes ahead.
A red sunset tells you that the atmosphere holds no threat so the weather should stay fine. However, a red sunrise means the air is particularly pure and unusually dry. This is likely to be the forerunner to a cold front and announces a change in the weather.
